A C&NW passenger train coming into Lake Forest.

A Chicago & Northwestern steam locomotive 1538 is leaving Arlington Heights.

Chicago Northwestern was famous for its on-time performance of its commuter trains.  High-stepping Atlantics like this one were one of the reasons.  This is locomotive 493 starting to hit her stride.

Chicago Northwestern had a fleet of "high-stepping" Atlantics (4-4-2)with HUGE drivers.  No wonder they were able to "stay on the card," consistently delivering some of the best "on-time" performance records in the country.  This speedster, number 1307, is racing along near Park Ridge.

Chicago Northwestern Atlantics were some of the best of their class -- in many ways, comparable to the might Pennsylvania's famous class E-6 locomotives.  Just compare the driving wheels on this locomotive with the man standing beside the tender.
